Happy’s Humble Burger Barn

Well, as another burger themed game has appeared on our radar, we just had to go ahead and review Happy’s Humble Burger Barn on Itch.io even if that makes us a little biased.

Happy’s Humble Burger Barn is advertised as a Fast Food Horror Sim and the fear and anxiety that seeps out of Happy’s Humble Burger Barn is palpable.  The game doesn’t even pretend that this is going to be a good day as you wake up with a gasp, in your car, before the sun has even risen (or is it always nighttime in Burger Barn land?). Either way, this is not a dream. The gloomy light is in fact your reality and now you have to actually drive your tired ass to work. And by work, you know this isn’t some cushy office job. That’s right, you’re going to be slinging burgers for the unwashed masses.

It felt a little too real and anxiety inducing to play this game on weekend and yet we played, we made burgers, and we faced our darkest, grease soaked nightmares. The attention to detail is perfect: from the exterior of Happy‘s burger joint, to the cold city skyline looming in the distance.  You start off by clocking in and turning on the lights, but before you start serving customers, you better familiarize yourself with your surroundings because you’re going to want to know where those salmon (??) nuggets are. Stock room? Check. Lobby? Check. Cash registers and fry stations? Check. Now let’s get to work.

Then things start to go bad. And no, we’re not talking about the food, so read on.

A Waking Nightmare

The customers come in with their terrible swagger and even worse fashion sense. It ain’t pretty. The stuff of nightmares even. And hey, no one ever said that working fast food and slinging burgers was fun, but you’re confident that you can manage this. So you go on, and you grill and mop your way through Happy’s Humble Burger Barn, and you prepare all them burgers and yes, this is now your life.

And then … as if it the drudgery wasn’t bad enough, life at Happy’s gets worse. Much, much worse.

I can’t describe what happens next but a horror is soon revealed that is darker than if Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft had a child together. Yeah. Think about that for a minute.

I don’t want to give it away but you can check out some Happy’s Humble Burger Barn gameplay, if you dare:

Well, looks like  Happy’s Humble Burger Barn has also got itself an official soundtrack! No one will ever accuse Scythe Dev Team of being slackers. Check this out:
